Please leave your comments below on the proposed idea of converting the Astrodome into the Football and Basketball facilities for the University of Houston.
What else do you think they should or could do with the Astrodome?

I remember putting on a tie and attending Cougar games at the Astrodome with my date in the early 70′s as a UH student and “frat boy”, when it was still somewhat of a novelty to play football on a rug. Coogs were nationally prominent as an independent and dominated the early years of the SWC. We drew 30,000 -45,000 for Texas or TAMU, but even then when those schools would still play us we didnt need the full 60,000 seats. Certainly worth considering, however- especially if city and state ponied up too.
If someone can show me how remodeling that place is cheaper than a new stadium, I would be less skeptical. But basketball?? That is a little more far fetched.
The only way the general public will ever support UH sports is for the games to be played in a safe environment. People are not going to drive into that part of town to watch a night or even day game. Someone needs to tell it like it is.
